Flow Data Information System
Contains travel flows from (and within) residential wards in Scotland to workplace wards in the UK. The set of wards used are as follows:
ST and CAS wards are identical for the most part; however in a few cases small CAS wards have been merged with larger neighbours in order to satisfy output thresholds. No such merging was necessary for Northern Ireland, so there is no distinction between ST and CAS wards there.
The mixture of wards is unique to the 2001 interaction data, and the set have therefore been referred to as interaction data wards.
An alternative version of this dataset, showing flows between and within postal sectors (within Scotland only) is also available.
For residences outside Scotland, the 2001 Special Workplace Statistics (SWS) should be used. The STS and SWS are similar in some ways but have some crucial differences:
Users can choose from 535 counts in 6 tables. This set of 535 counts includes a number of totals and sub-totals; the number of interior cells which form the basis of these sub-totals is 280.
All the 2001 STS data have been derived from the 100% sample and include imputed households. Where workplace locations were unknown, these were also imputed.
The data in this set were not subject to any post-tabulation disclosure control methods such as the Small Cell Adjustment Methodology used elsewhere in 2001 Census outputs.
The following statements should be attached to all output produced using this data set
Data from this set should be cited in a bibliography as:

The following pre-defined totals are available from this data set:
There are 6 tables defined for this data set:
The data are available for the following geographies:
Output for geographies that are only supported via aggregation will take longer than for those supported directly
