Abstract
The presentation will describe an example of the use of PostGIS, an open source GIS toolkit, together with MapServer.
We use these in the Census Interaction Data Service to provide mapping functions for a web-based interface to Census data.
The presentation will describe the background to CIDS, and briefly outline it’s role. It will then focus on the use of PostGIS and MapServer, describing what these packages are, why we selected them, and how we use them.
A demonstration of the use of PostGIS in WICID (Web-based Interface to Census Interaction Data) will be given (assuming time permits!)
