• WICID uses PostgreSQL (www.postgresql.org) as its DBMS and to provide support for the storage and manipulation of geometric features

• A third party add-on to PostgreSQL called PostGIS (postgis.refractions.net) offers facilities to handle spatial data that follow the OpenGIS ‘Simple Features Specification for SQL’ standard

• In order for dynamic web pages to be created, a programming language is required and WICID uses PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) (www.php.net)
